What is Nano-ICG?

Indocyanine Green (ICG) is a diagnostic dye traditionally used for liver function testing, cardiac output assessment, and medical imaging. In nano-form, ICG becomes a precision tool for therapeutic use:

  • Enhanced bioavailability

  • Extended circulation time

  • Improved targeted delivery to inflamed or tumorous tissue

  • Strong infrared light absorption

When paired with near-infrared (NIR) light, especially wavelengths around 800–830 nm, nano-ICG can be selectively activated deep within the body.

💡 Why Near-Infrared Light?

Near-infrared light penetrates deeper than visible light—reaching skin, blood, and internal tissues. When activated by NIR laser (typically 810 nm or 830 nm):

  • Nano-ICG releases heat and reactive oxygen species (ROS)

  • These disrupt abnormal cells or pathogens

  • Increase local oxygen demand

  • Improve circulation and immune modulation

How It Works

1. Nano-ICG Administration

  • Given via IV infusion (or direct local injection)
  • Accumulates in areas with high metabolic or vascular activity (tumors, inflammation, infections)

2. IV Infrared Laser Activation

  • Delivered into the bloodstream through a fiber-optic catheter
  • Targets capillary-rich tissues
  • Can also be delivered locally into tissue if needed

3. Biological Effects

  • ROS generation → disrupts pathogens and abnormal cells
  • Mild thermal effect → enhances circulation and tissue repair
  • Vasodilation → improves perfusion and oxygenation

Clinical Applications

Focus AreaNano-ICG + IR Light Role
Cancer protocolsTumor targeting, vascular disruption
Chronic infectionsTargeted microbial deactivation (e.g., Lyme, viruses)
Detox pathwaysStimulates lymphatic and microvascular clearance
Immune modulationROS signaling, inflammation reduction
Mitochondrial healthNIR enhances cellular energy production

Key Advantages

  • Precision targeting: Selective accumulation in high-metabolism zones
  • Minimal collateral damage: Spares surrounding healthy tissue
  • Prolonged therapeutic effect: Extended bioactivity through nano-formulation
  • Dual-activation potential: Works systemically or via localized delivery
